Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure that allows for the preservation of severely damaged or infected teeth. This process is often employed to avoid tooth extraction and retain the natural dentition.

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment is a dental intervention in which our dentist removes the infected tissues and nerves from the inner part of the tooth, known as the dental pulp. The infected or damaged pulp chamber of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected, and then sealed with a special material to prevent further infections. Root canal treatment involves multiple stages, so several appointments are typically necessary.

  • Tooth Decay: When tooth decay reaches the pulp chamber of the tooth.
  • Trauma: Severe tooth injury or fracture can damage the inner part of the tooth.
  • Root Canal Issues: Infections or inflammations around the tooth roots often warrant root canal treatment.

How is Root Canal Treatment Performed?

The process of root canal treatment typically involves the following steps:

  1. Local Anesthesia: Our dentist administers local anesthesia to ensure a painless procedure.
  2. Removal of Dental Pulp: Removal of infected or damaged tissues from the inner part of the tooth.
  3. Cleaning and Disinfection: Cleaning and disinfecting the pulp chamber to prevent further infections.
  4. Root Canal Filling: Filling the cleaned root canals with a special material (root canal filling) to prevent bacterial ingress.
  5. Restoration: Depending on the extent of tooth structure loss, the inner cavity and crown of the tooth are restored using fillings, crowns, or other restorative interventions.
