Dental Restoration

Dental restoration is a dental procedure that helps replace lost or damaged teeth, restoring proper chewing, an aesthetic smile, and overall oral health. There are various types of dental restorations, and the treating dentist selects the most appropriate solution based on the patient’s individual needs.

Types of Dental Restorations

Removable Dental Prostheses

Removable dental prostheses are dental appliances that patients can remove without medical intervention. Proper cleaning and maintaining oral hygiene require removing the prosthesis. Removable dental prostheses can be partial or complete.

Complete Dentures

These dentures are held in place by vacuum, chewing pressure, and gravity. Wearing the prosthesis may cause significant discomfort initially, but this usually diminishes over time. If there is sufficient bone for implantation, and if the patient desires it, we recommend this solution. A good and safe option is overdentures anchored on two or four implants. This method allows for the creation of a fixed dental prosthesis that the patient can remove and replace. This approach is increasingly used, especially in the lower jaw, where wearing complete dentures poses the most difficulty.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are suitable when there is partial tooth loss in an arch, and the remaining teeth are insufficient for a fixed dental prosthesis. These dental prostheses are made on a metal framework covered with gum-colored plastic. The teeth are attached to the plastic part. We can use clasps or precision attachments for retention. Precision attachments are always hidden. Due to routine dental implantation, the production of such dental restorations has declined in recent times.

The dental restoration process involves the following steps:

  1. Consultation: The first step is a consultation with a dentist or oral surgeon, who examines the missing or damaged teeth and discusses the patient’s individual needs.
  2. Planning: The doctor prepares a treatment plan that includes the type and material of the dental restoration.
  3. Fabrication of the Restoration: The dental restoration is crafted by a dental technician according to the patient’s specific requirements.
  4. Fogpótlás felhelyezése: A kész fogpótlást rögzítik a fogakra, implantátumokra vagy a fogatlan állcsont gerincre. Az orvos gondoskodik a megfelelő illeszkedésről és a kényelmes felhelyezésről, illetve instruálja a pácienst a fogpótlás megfelelő tisztításával, illetve otthoni gondozásával kapcsolatban.
  5. Placement of the Restoration: The finished dental restoration is attached to the teeth, implants, or edentulous ridge. The doctor ensures proper fit and comfortable placement.

Healing and Aftercare

After dental restoration, the patient must carefully maintain the dental prosthesis and attend regular dental check-ups. To ensure the long-term effectiveness and durability of the dental restoration, it is important to maintain proper oral care and hygiene.
