Dental Hygiene Treatment, Teeth Whitening

Dental Hygiene Treatment, Removal of Tartar
Tartar forms when minerals in saliva produced by salivary glands mix with dental plaque, essentially solidifying plaque. It can only be removed through professional methods. During dental hygiene treatment, comfort improves, gum inflammation decreases or completely resolves, blood circulation increases, and any unpleasant breath usually dissipates. Home oral care becomes much more effective since maintaining and cleaning smooth, polished tooth surfaces is easier.
Tartar removal is a fundamental dental procedure, and our clinical dental hygienists follow these steps:
- Preliminary Examination: Before starting the procedure, we thoroughly assess the patient’s oral cavity, evaluating the quantity and distribution of tartar, as well as any other dental issues.
- Ultrasonic Cleaning: Initially, our dental hygienist uses an ultrasonic cleaner generating vibrations. These vibrations help to loosen and remove tartar from the tooth surface. The ultrasonic device efficiently and quickly eliminates tartar without damaging the tooth enamel.
- Polishing: Following tartar removal, the teeth are polished to remove surface stains and smooth the tooth surface.
- Consultation, Advice: After the procedure, our staff provides detailed information and guidance on proper oral hygiene practices, such as correct brushing techniques and proper interdental cleaning habits (introducing the use of dental floss or interdental brushes). Adhering strictly to this advice helps minimize future tartar formation.
To ensure thorough and perfect work, the entire treatment takes about 1 hour, depending, of course, on the patient’s oral condition and the amount of tartar.
EMS – Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)

Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is an evidence-based, modular preventive and therapeutic clinical protocol applicable across a wide range of oral cavity indications. Its development involved collaboration between universities, clinicians, and the Swiss Dental Academy (SDA). Over 92% of more than 76,000 patients worldwide have highly praised GBT and would recommend it to their family and friends. The primary objective of this new clinical protocol is the removal of biofilm and the long-term maintenance of dental health. This protocol is GBT, which combines professional oral hygiene with home care practices. Currently, this is the best method for controlling harmful biofilm.
Biofilm is barely visible
Millions of bacteria live in the thin layer that forms on the surface of teeth, known as biofilm or plaque. They feed on our diet, especially sugar. The bacteria in the biofilm produce acid by breaking down sugar, leading to tooth decay. The biofilm grows daily but is barely visible to the naked eye. It’s no wonder that the oral cavity is the preferred gateway for bacteria to enter the body.

Biofilm is the main cause of dental diseases – but not only dental ones
Bacteria in the oral biofilm damage teeth and their surroundings, particularly the gums and the bone that holds the teeth in place. Unfortunately, they can cause more trouble: these bacteria can penetrate deep into tissues, spreading throughout the body and causing severe diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Another problem is that biofilm can turn into tartar, which is unsightly. The biofilm must be removed! Effectively and painlessly. The best way to do this is through Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT).

Painless
Professional oral hygiene performed according to GBT provides a sense of well-being. The procedure is more reminiscent of a spa experience than dental treatment. It is painless and does not damage the teeth at all. GBT rewrites the rules set in the 1960s! With EMS AIRFLOW® and PIEZON® PS No Pain devices, only water, air, and AIRFLOW®PLUS powder are needed to eradicate harmful biofilm with a winning smile.

A crucial element of GBT is making the biofilm visible on the teeth and gums. This procedure is called plaque staining. This step is essential because without it, we cannot be sure if everything has been removed. Previously, there was no quick solution to this, but with GBT, it is no longer a problem. Plaque staining is also very useful because it helps distinguish between harmful biofilm and your own tissues, thus protecting your tissues. The result is immediately visible: if there is no remaining dye, there is no remaining biofilm!
GBT Guarantees
The most modern guided biofilm therapy completely removes plaque, tartar, and discoloration. GBT employs innovative procedures that are not only effective but also gentle on healthy tissues. GBT is a clinical protocol that guarantees predictable high quality. The 8-step GBT protocol was developed based on years of research by Swiss EMS and top experts. The protocol is based on scientifically proven AIRFLOW®, PERIOFLOW®, and PIEZON® NO PAIN technologies, which allow for the gentle removal of biofilm. GBT is a fast, safe, and painless method that helps in the more effective preservation of overall health.

Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is always preceded by a thorough dental hygiene treatment to achieve the desired results safely. The safety of teeth whitening performed under the supervision of our dental hygienist is proven by many years of clinical experience in our practice.
The first step in the treatment is taking an impression to create a special tray that fits precisely over the teeth. This tray is filled with a whitening gel. During whitening, oxygen produced during the breakdown of carbamide peroxide penetrates the tooth enamel and dentin, lightening discolored areas. It is essential to note that the material does not cause any changes in the tooth structure; it only makes the tooth color lighter.
How long should the treatment continue?
In most cases, a change in color can be noticed after just one night of use, but an average of 7-10 days of application is necessary to achieve optimal results. Our dental hygienist will inform you about the expected outcome of the treatment in your case.
Are there any side effects of the treatment?
In some cases, patients may experience increased tooth sensitivity during treatment; however, this is only a temporary phenomenon and can be completely alleviated with the use of special products if necessary. This sensitivity usually disappears on its own within a few days after completing the treatment. If you experience any discomfort, please let us know!
How long-lasting is the result achieved?
This depends on many factors, including you. The result can even be permanent! Good oral hygiene, thorough brushing—especially after consuming foods and drinks that stain the teeth—can ensure whiter teeth for many years.
Please,
- DO NOT use Opalescence if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- DO NOT eat or smoke while wearing the tray
- DO NOT expose the Opalescence syringe to heat or sunlight
- DO NOT store the material in the freezer
To maintain the results, avoid foods (e.g., paprika, tomato-based sauces, curry dishes, chocolate, beets, etc.) and drinks (e.g., tea, coffee, cola, red wine, etc.) containing coloring agents for 2 weeks after the treatment.
