Gum diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis are very common and often develop slowly, without noticeable symptoms at first. If left untreated, it can damage the gums and the supporting structures of the teeth, which may eventually lead to tooth mobility or tooth loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Periodontal treatment helps to prevent, diagnose and manage these conditions, supporting long-term oral health and helping patients keep their natural teeth for as long as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Professional cleaning below the gumline:\u00a0 periodontal curettage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      <\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

      There are two main techniques used to clean the areas below the gumline: closed curettage and open curettage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Closed curettage<\/strong> is a deep cleaning procedure performed under local anaesthesia. During the treatment, the periodontist carefully cleans the periodontal pockets below the gumline and removes infected tissue, plaque and tartar using special instruments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Open curettage <\/strong>may be recommended when the affected areas are deeper or more difficult to access. In this case, the gum is gently opened so the periodontist can see and thoroughly clean the deeper parts of the periodontal pockets. After cleaning, the gum is gently placed back into position and secured with sutures to support healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Beyond deep cleaning: advanced periodontal care<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In some cases, treating periodontal disease requires additional surgical procedures. When this is necessary, bone grafting materials, collagen-based products and other regenerative materials may be used to help rebuild the tissues around the teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      After periodontal treatments, proper follow-up care is essential. This includes regular dental check-ups, professional oral hygiene treatment at least once a year \u2014 or more frequently if recommended by your dentist or dental hygienist \u2014 and maintaining good oral hygiene at home. In some cases, repeated periodontal treatment may also be necessary to keep the condition under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
